Newton's Nook Designs DT farewell + personal update!

Hi crafty friends! Today I am sad to announce that this will be my final project for the NND design team. I'd like to thank Jen and the entire NND design team for being so amazing, welcoming and supportive!

It has been a great two years, however if you follow me on Instagram, then you know we recently welcomed a puppy into our family. Our new pup's name is Greg. He is a Golden Retriever and he has just been the sweetest pup ever. As you can imagine, a puppy is a lot of work! So I will be taking a break from crafting to focus my time and energy on raising this little guy. I hope to squeeze in some time for crafting over the next few months, but I just wanted to give you heads up that it'll be pretty quiet around here for a while.

So now onto my project! Since all of my Christmas cards are done and mailed off, I decided to create a fun birthday card using Raccoon Rascals. I'm running pretty low on birthday cards and realized I have very few masculine cards on hand right now. So I decided to keep the design pretty CAS and gender neutral.

I colored the raccoon hanging upside down with Copic Markers. I then fussy-cut him out and added some small googly eyes. I cut a white panel using a stitched rectangle die and then used a stitched square die to cut a window. For the background of the window opening, I used pattern paper from the AE Everyday paper pack. The "happy" is from Simply Seasonal. I simply white heat embossed the sentiment onto navy card stock and then fussy-cut it out. The small "birthday" sentiment is from the Simply Sentimental set and that fit perfectly under the happy.  I layered the focal panel over a piece of navy card stock and for the background I used pattern paper from the Jen Hadfield "Cottage Living" paper pack.

Newton's Nook Designs Deck the Halls Blog Hop

Hi crafty friends! Today is the annual Newton's Nook Designs Deck the Halls Blog Hop!

Today I'm sharing a fun Christmas shaker card using the Splendid Stags and Pines + Holly die sets. I die cut the stag head from gold card stock about 4 times and glued all of the layers together for some added dimension. I used the Garden Window die set to create the shaker window from pattern papers from the My Mind's Eye "Christmas on Market Street" paper pack. I filled the shaker window with gold confetti, silver shimmer seed beads, and woodland seed beads from Pretty Pink Posh. I die cut the holly from green start and the bow from red card stock. The sentiment is from one of the tags from the Joyful Tags set. I simply heat embossed the the tag on vellum and then fussy-cut the sentiment out. This is a great way to get more from your stamps and sentiments :).

Newton's Nook Designs Inky Paws Challenge #38 - Color Challenge

Happy December! Can you believe there's only 23 more days until Christmas - so crazy! I hope all of your holiday shopping and card making has been going well!  Today there's a new Inky Paws Challenge over on the Newton's Nook Designs blog. This month's theme is a color challenge and I was inspired to make a fun holiday card using the new Sweater Weather set.
Inky Paws #38 by Handmade by Yuki | Newton's Nook Designs: Sweater Weather
I started off by creating my own stamped background using the mittens. I mounted the mittens on my acrylic block backwards and stamped the back of stamps with Lake Shore and Mint dye inks. I then stamped the right side of the stamps in black ink. This technique really only works for symmetrical images, however it worked out perfectly because the set included the mirror images. I colored the cute bunny with Copic Markers and then cut it out using the coordinating die. To mute the background behind the bunny, I die cut a circle from vellum and glued it right behind the bunny. I used a stitched cloud border die to make snow hills. I then white heat embossed the sentiment from the Beautiful Baubles set onto teal card stock and fussy-cut it out. I used matching pattern paper for the background and added some silver cord twine. To finish the card, I added 4mm Holly Jolly Christmas sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

I had so much fun using this color combo. It's fun to use non-traditional Christmas colors and I also like that it can also be used to make fun winter cards too! I hope you were inspired by this month's theme! Be sure to visit the Newton's Nook Designs blog for more inspiration! ♥
